PARENT HELP NEEDED!

If anyone is available during school hours (or at home if you have your own laminator) then I would love some parent/Grandparent help. I have a pile of photocopying, laminating and then cutting out that needs to be done. I also have some pictures that have been waiting to be backed so we can display them. If you can help then please leave a comment below or email me at krae@upperharbour.school.nz I would really appreciate it.

Many thanks,

Miss Rae

Gala news!

On Monday August the 2nd, the Tipa team is having a cake competition. We need to make (or buy) a cake and decorate it. Previous winners have always had lots of lollies on their cakes! YUM! Madison says when you make your cake make sure you have enough lollies for UHPS to vote for! Zion says have lots of colours, Ben G agrees! Logan says make it a pop up one. Miss Rae says make it CHOCOLATE!

We found lots of cool ideas here!

We also have to collect items for a basket to be raffled. Room 13 are collecting for a basket called Baby Bliss. You can bring anything new related to babies. Some ideas we came up with are:

A doll, a dummy, a nappy or a packet of nappies, a bottle, baby wipes, baby clothes, baby bowls, rattle, baby songs cd or dvd, a baby blanket, baby slippers, baby toys, baby shoes and socks, baby PJs, bibs, or even baby food.

At the moment UHPS are collecting toys and puzzles, we are coming first equal with Room 14, so if we want to win we need to have a big clear out at home and bring our unwanted stuff to school!

If we get some nappies would any creative parents make us a diaper cake?

Delivering the books to Mangere East School.

On the last day of term 2, Mr B loaded up his truck and I (Miss Rae) went with him and 2 students from Room 13, to deliver the books to Mangere East. First stop was the gas station where Mr B shouted us a hot drink!

Then we started the long drive over the Harbour Bridge to Mangere East School. The cameras were used as backseat entertainment!

When we got to Mangere East Primary the first thing we noticed was that new prefab classrooms were being delivered so that they would be ready to use next time. As we drove up the driveway we noticed a climbing wall! Later we found out that they were having a fundraising fair the next day and that is what the climbing wall was for.

We went into the office to tell the school we had arrived. After we were welcomed we were taken to a classroom. We had to walk through the hall. Many classes were using the hall as a classroom and used different corners of the hall as their learning space. We went into a classroom and were given seats at the front of the classroom. There were lots of speeches thanking us and they presented us with cards, they even sung as a song! We felt very special.

After that we went on a tour of the school. We saw the big empty concrete pad where classrooms used to be. Bigger children interviewed us. We unloaded Mr B's truck.

It was awesome to see how excited all the children and teachers were! I felt so happy and pleased, and very proud off the hard work Room 13 had done.

It was time to head back to school. We played I spy and we laughed and laughed.

I wished all of Room 13 had come but it wasn't possible. They did such a great thing for others.

Learning Hebrew

Today we had a go at speaking some phrases in Hebrew. It was a lot harder than we thought to make the right sounds. Many people in Room 13 enjoyed the challenge. This website has some basic phrases for people who want to keep learning.

Healthy Eating!

Today we went to assembly. We heard a new idea about eating healthy food for lunches. We decided we needed to eat your sandwiches, and fruit and vegetables first before eating TREATS! Chocolate and lollies are not recommended for school! SO when we got back to class we went looking for healthy food ideas! This one is cool for us kids to help us know what to eat! We found this information from an old "Mission on" publication. Happy reading!

Teach yourself a new game.

Do some animal research.

Find a new book to read from the library.

Find other ideas here.

Remember to read, read, read! I have been thinking about great chapter books like Roald Dahl and Brian Falkner. I have been reminiscing about Little house on the Prairie, and am keen to reread books I read as a child about Laura Ingalls.

See you soon, Miss Rae.

Leadership Day

Today we had a Red socks day to celebrate the leaders in our community. Red socks came about from Sir Peter Blake. Lots of children wore red socks!

We had a special assembly and Harold from Life Education came! It was exciting because he was giving out a special certificate.

It was for us! What a surprise! The school acknowledged all the hard work we did to collect the books for Mangere East Primary.

Counting the books

Today we put our shoes on and went to Miss Rae's car and got out the boxes of books. We made them into a big pile, a mountain of books. The books were really heavy. After that we counted the books in tens until we all had a pile of 40. Then we counted the number of people and multiplied that by 40 to see how many books we had. We have the grand total of 962 books!!!!! WOW! Thank you to all of the UHPS community that sent in books. Thank you to Marion Stewart from Pearson, Borders Albany, Whitcoulls Albany and Miss Rae's friend Barb. Special thanks to Mr Valentine-Burt who gave us hundreds of books. Mr V-B now sells books online so he donated us children's books. Thanks also to teachers who gave us teaching resources. We hope to deliver them tomorrow to Mangere East Primary.

Wow! Mr V-B gave us a lot of books!!!!!

Look at our massive pile! 962 books - woohoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

We packed them all and they are ready to go!
